2 Belize City Men Freed of Kidnapping Charges
Two other men were also freed today after being accused of kidnapping a youth near Faber’s Road. Businessman, Amir Reid and Construction Worker Alexander Lopez, were accused in March of this year of forcing Abel Lara Junior into a vehicle. Lara Junior also claimed the men took him up the highway and before they could hurt him, he managed to escape. He claimed he ran into the highway with his abductors in hot pursuit but he managed to make it to the city to report the incident. The men walked this morning when Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith was informed that Lara was requesting no further court action against them. With that, both men bolted out of the court. With the weight off his shoulder Lopez said the allegations had hurt him badly.
Alexander Lopez, Freed
“I was wrongfully accused. [I] didn’t have any knowledge about any kidnapping; I wasn’t anywhere around where any kidnapping was happening. I was at home, went back to work. CIB came looking for Alex Lopez, charged me wrongfully for kidnapping; something I have no knowledge about. It made me lose my nice crane job I had for almost three years as a young youth. Never had been charged for a crime before and the first charge was kidnapping and I’ve lost my job.”

“Now that you have been vindicated of such an allegation, what is your next move as to…try to see how you can get back your job or civil suit? What are you going to do?”
Alexander Lopez
“Well I have to file a civil suit and sue who fi get sue because from March to this day, I lose ah lot.”
As you heard, Lopez says he is contemplating suing for his false imprisonment as well as for damages as he has not received a pay cheque since March of this year when he went to jail and lost his job. The duo was charged jointly with kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnap and harm upon Abel Lara Junior.
