US Embassy Representatives to Observe General Elections
Finally for pre-election coverage tonight, at least where the Elections and Boundaries Department is concerned, Chief Elections Officer Josephine Tamai confirmed for us that the election will be observed by a team of US Embassy Representatives. They join the O.A.S. observer mission already on the ground.
Josephine Tamai, Chief Elections Officer
“It’s the U.S. Embassy to whom approval has been granted to observe the elections as well. So along with the O.A.S. we have those two groups who will be observing the elections. With the U.S. Embassy you have both foreign persons and local persons.”
Mike Rudon
“What is the scope of the observation?”
Josephine Tamai
“Well in terms of observation and observers, the purpose is to observe, so they will go around the polling stations, pick up whatever information they want, view the entire process and if they should see anything happening that shouldn’t be happening, then they’re free to bring it to our attention, and just observe. They will observe from the opening until the closing.”
I hope they pay attention to those that will be paying people for votes. We want a fair and free election and NO paying for votes.
