Yabra tops Griga in BPFL play
James Adderley, Reporting
Good evening I?m James Adderley and you?ve just stepped on board this journey we call Sports Monday. So let?s split to the MCC Grounds where week two in the Regents Cup Tournament found Kulture Yabra hosting Print Belize Griga yesterday.
And Yabra goes to work immediately when Jerome James finds Norman Tilliman Nunez, whose left foot launch creates problems for the Griga defence but they do survive the Press.
At the other end Anthony Flores creates space and finds Ryan Sampson who mounts this precious individual efforts that gives Griga a 1-zip lead some fourteen minutes in.
Alarmed the City team pushes for the equalizer and should have gotten it here only Sanjay Pitts could not keep the pill from rising.
We?re some thirty minutes into the first half when Kevin Flores takes down Sanjay Pitts inside the eighteen to draw the maximum penalty.
Albert Thurton steps up and convert and we?ve got a one to one ballgame.
Two minutes later, Wilhelm whistle becomes an unlikely hero when he bends this grounder into the far corner to give Yabra two to one lead to take to intermission.
In second half, we?re seventy-four minutes into the ballgame when Daniel Thomas keeps this play alive to Tyrone Muschamp and his header gives Yabra a three to one lead.
Now folks if ever there ever was a gift in football–this is it–as Daniel Thomas finds himself unattended as Yabra gives up four to one.
Five minutes from the long whistle Griga gets lucky when Thomas Rodriguez crashes with Elroy Rawley the ball bounces to Anthony Flores who scores and at the end of ninety minutes Yabra records the four to two big W.
In other results from around the league Kremandala held Juventus of Orange Walk to a one to one score Saturday night. On Sunday defending champion Sagitun send the San Pedro Seahawks two zip while the Cayo Avengers got their first win of the season by clobbering the Calcutta Bulls two to one.
This weekend?s schedule will find Sagitun hosting Calcutta Bulls at the Michael Ashcroft. Kremandala Lake and Kulture Yabra meet in a Belize City derby. San Pedro Seahawks travel to Cayo Avenger and Griga will play host to Juventus.
Changing gears let?s peek on the six stage M & M Cycle Tour which got off on Tuesday twenty-fifth of January and culminated three hundred and twenty miles later yesterday on the Northern Highway in front of the M & M Corporate offices.
But first, the opening stage featured a forty mile ride on the Western Highway and here?s the defending champion Mateo Cruz in the yellow grabbing the win in an impressive field sprint. Ernest Meighan finishes second and Gregory Lovell Junior third.
Stage Two brings up another forty mile ride–this time on the Boom circuit and again it?s another field sprint and its Ernest Meighan taunting the field as he takes the big W. Giovanni Leslie pulls up second and Roque Matus third.
In the meantime stage three is a repeat of the first stage on the Western Highway again it?s a field sprint and again its defending champion Mateo Cruz with the leaders Jersey and big W after forcing Robert Moriano into second and Gregory Lovell into third.
Stage four brings up the fifty mile ride through Hattieville and Boom with Mateo Cruz still in the drivers seat. We then fast-forward to the finish and I?m sure you recognize the Golden one Ernest Meighan who captures his second stage win of this M & M tour. Robert Moriano steps up to second and Gregory Lovell third.
In stage five the journey starts from Benque Viejo to Burrel Boom for a total of seventy miles for just a few miles in the Choto Brother Rafael and Giovanni execute the break in the hills. It?s perfect people.
However around Hattieville the eldest Choto Jose makes this move that would propel him to first place in stage five at Burrel Boom and wrest the leaders Jersey from Mateo Cruz. Fred Usher finished second and Douglas Lamb third.
So we?ve arrived at the final stage which features two laps around the Burrel Boom Circle that adds up to thirty miles with Jose Choto wearing yellow top.
Six miles to the top it?s a nine man breakaway that would never look back.
With the tape in sight, Jose Choto goes to the after burners and prevails over team-mate Fred who finished second and Ernest Meighan who settles for third.
This win gives Jose Choto an over time of thirteen hours and twenty minutes and twenty-two score for the six stage tour and we say congratulations to Fred Usher finishes second over all time of thirteen hours, twenty minutes and forty two seconds while George Lovell junior took third place in 2005 in this M & M tour.
Meanwhile the next big cycling event come up next Sunday in an event called the Annual Valentine Cycle Classic.
In closing folks, we want to salute our boy Milton Palacio for currently playing point for the Toronto Raptors with after a two game suspension was issued to the point guard Rayford Alston. He got in two of the top ten plays for Sunday night inside the NBA. We say to Milton Palacio, kept the good work up you outstanding Belizean.
Hey that?s it for now. We thank our cameramen for the great work over the weekend. Jah over all, I?m James Adderley.
