Prime Minister Dean Barrow Sworn In
Prime Minister Dean Barrow has done the unprecedented – led the United Democratic Party to a third consecutive term in office. He was sworn in by Governor-General Sir Colville Young at Belize House this afternoon in the company of family and close friends. Final results after a just completed recount in Stann Creek West show that the U.D.P. has managed to take nineteen of thirty-one seats, while the P.U.P. has twelve. In Corozal, the U.D.P. got two seats, and two in Orange Walk. In Belize City the incumbent lost ground slightly, losing Lake Independence and Caribbean Shores and holding on to six seats. Of the five divisions in the Cayo District, the U.D.P. held on to three, and also held on to Belmopan. In Dangriga the U.D.P. was victorious, but could not gain control of Stann Creek West. To round it off, they lost both seats in Toledo, but now hold control of all three rural seats. While the PM was sworn in today, it is expected that the other successful members of the U.D.P. will be sworn in on Monday.
