Mother of Seven Sentenced to Fifteen Days Behind Bars
A mother of seven children, forty year old Stephanie Moreira, who is a resident of Iguana Street, Belize City, will have to spend time behind bars for using insulting words to Georgia Curry and causing harm to Shasta Flowers. This morning, Moreira pleaded guilty to charges before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith and was sentenced to fifteen days in prison. The prison term came as a shock to the mother who left her children at home thinking that she would be fined and would be back home. The Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith told Moreira that she cannot take the law into her hands. After pleading guilty, Moreira told the court that the incident stemmed from an old beef when one of her daughters was injured by the son of Flowers. But Curry has another version of the incident to the effect that Moreira went to her house and cursed her. Moriera is appealing the decision to send her to jail.
