Taiwan offers agricultural scholarships

Story PictureIf you’re a Belizean student wishing to pursue undergraduate studies in Taiwan there is good news and then there is not so good news. The good news is that scholarships for undergraduate studies are currently available for this year’s intake at the Taiwan National Pintung University of Science and Technology. But the bad news is that spaces are limited. This week, the Director of the University’s Office of International Affairs is in Belize to recruit scholarship recipients from Belize. At a meeting on Wednesday, Professor Po-Yung Lai briefed applicants on the requirements for entry into the institution’s programmes.

Professor Po-Yung Lai BNational Pintung University of Science and Technology
?We are trying to recruit two students per country. And so with that limited number, certainly there will be more applicants than the slot available but I do encourage the students here not to be discouraged. We want them to at least try and who knows, we may have other slots available and then we certainly would like to have good students coming to Taiwan.?

?The Belizean students once we recruit them will come to the National Pintung University of Science and Technology, that?s in the southern part of Taiwan. And this university was known for its agriculture programme. It started from 1924 and we already have eighty years of experience and history behind us.?

Successful scholarship recipients will take up studies in September of this year and their course of studies will span the next four years. Although the briefing was conducted earlier this week, applications are still being accepted at the Taiwanese Embassy in Belize City.
