Baby killed in tragic accident
An eighteen-month-old child lost his life this morning in what can only be described as tragic accident in Belize City. Jarin Sankey died on the spot after he was run over by a taxicab near his home on Pelican Street around ten thirty this morning. According to the child’s mother, the baby had gone out to meet a family friend who stopped by to visit. But while that visitor, thirty-three year old Shawn Lamb, was reversing his car, he apparently did not observe Sankey behind the vehicle and ran over him. The child was transported to the KHMH but pronounced dead on arrival. Lamb was also hospitalized, suffering from extreme trauma but has since been released. While police have impounded the vehicle that knocked down Sankey, the child’s mother this evening told News 5 that the family is not interested in pressing charges. Police, however, have served Lamb with a notice of intended prosecution, which means that should the ongoing investigation produce evidence suggesting wrongdoing, he will be charged. Meanwhile, a series of traffic related charges have been slapped on a Benque Viejo man who knocked down and killed a cyclist near Central Farm on Tuesday night. Henry Winston Ford was today charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, failure to stop and render aid, failure to report an accident and driving without due care and attention. Ford was offered and met bail when he appeared in magistrate’s court this morning. He is to reappear in court in a month’s time.
