Child drowns in waters off Southern Foreshore

While there is still a swine flu alert the sweltering temperatures took a toll on a five year old. She was among the kids who flock to the Southern Foreshore and the Newtown Barracks areas to stave off the heat. But children in the water with no adult supervision, has always been a dangerous combination, and over the weekend it proved fatal for Sardia Simone Casimiro of Esperanza Village in Cayo. Casimiro was vacationing with her eighteen year old sister, who lives in the Southern Foreshore of Belize City. Reports are that Casimiro told her sister she was going to bathe… but she didn’t say she was going to the sea. And when the older sister went to check on Casimiro in the bathroom, she was nowhere to be found. The five year old’s body was later retrieved from the sea on Sunday around eleven-forty. Keron Coote, who was also swimming nearby made the discovery.

So I holla fi my rest ah friends fi mek dehn come help me. And when dehn come help me and we put ah up yah, we di try fi mek ih come back and ih noh come back. Dehn seh dat how dehn know ah and den afta dat dehn gone hail ih ma and ih ma come. Ih ma come inna wah red taxi and ih ma start to bawl and dehn pick up ah and dehn gone. When dehn done gone di ambulance and di police just mi di come. Everybody done ker ah. Right down yah we find ah done bloat up and everything.”

Casimiro’s body is now at the K.H.M.H. morgue awaiting a post-mortem.
