The tourism industry which is among the top revenue generators for the country has also experienced a slight decline in the number of cruise passengers disembarking in Belize City.  That ten percent decrease is the equivalent of seventeen thousand persons.

“Hotels and restaurants decreased by two percent.  There was a decreasing in cruise visitors of ten percent and overnight visitors increased by seven percent.  However, it’s notable that this ten percent decrease in cruise ship visitors represents seventeen thousand less persons arriving to Belize for the months of July to September that basically contributed largely to this decrease.  Overnight visitors however, had a small increase which netted out the decrease of visitors from the cruise ships.  They increased by four point four thousand visitors.  Government services increased by thirteen percent, as we observing from the past, government services have been increasing due to expenditure increase.  So this graph here just shows you guys the decrease of cruise ship arrivals and the increase of tourist arrivals for the third quarter of the year.”
