City residents share New Years wishes
Every year we seem to greet the New Year with a list of things we promise to do for ourselves. We say we will lose weight, get fit, stop smoking, spend more time with family, save money…But this year it seems, from the sampling we took on the streets many people are not just thinking of themselves at the end of 2004 and start of 2005, they are sending out good wishes to just about everyone.

Whether you are planning on bringing in the New Year at a church service, social gathering or at home one most asked questions will be: What is your wish for 2005?
Person #1
?Well I am planning on having a fine time for the New Year. I just hope the New Year will bring me something good. Good wishes for everybody, the whole family and throughout Belize.?
This evening I was on Albert Street to get an idea of what Belizeans are hoping for in the New Year.
Person #1
?Better for the country and more peace and love throughout society.?
Person #2
?Well I just hope everybody, that things would get better for the Belizean people, especially for the people who are in poverty, everything you no, that things would get better.?
The majority of people we spoke with wished all Belizeans well but still had a resolution or two of their own.
Person #3
?Stop smoking. I think that is about it because I have a little problem with smoking so I will try to give up my smoking behaviour.?
Person #4
?To be honest with you, I don?t make resolutions anymore. For the past fifteen years I stopped making them because I don?t really keep them. My resolution for everyday is that I hope that things will get better tomorrow, alright and what I would like to do or say is that I would hope and trust that next year will be a better and brighter year and all the problems that w e are having I would hope somehow we would be able to solve them in a peaceful manner.?
Person #5
?Well my new year resolution is for everyone to be joyous and have a new year and I would like to see my two kids grow and get older for the new year.?
Jacqueline Woods
?And what about you sir??
Person #6
?Well, just to have a happy new year to everybody else and a safe next year.?
Person #7
?Well, my new year resolution is stop renting house and get a new home of my own. I Just pray that the business continue to be great.?
Person #8
?I don?t usually make resolutions but I hope I can serve the Lord, Christ better than I did over the past few years of my life.?
Just how many of these resolutions will be kept, is anybody’s guess, but it’s hope that 2005 with all the difficulties it may bring will make us all stronger individuals and more determined in achieving our goals.
