Opposition weighs in on Musa’a shuffle

Story PictureFrom the red corner, tonight the Opposition United Democratic Party is also waiting to see who will play which card in this political poker game. According to Leader of the Opposition, Dean Barrow, the high stakes are indicative of serious instability within the ruling party.

Dean Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
?Public perception is crucial. There is no doubt that we are going through a crisis apart from the internal difficulties of the ruling party. And with respect to that crisis of which the collapse in public finances is the most serious indicator, people will not feel any confidence, I think, as a result of this latest move whether genuine or not. On the last occasion, the Prime Minster had suggested that the formation of this Cabinet sub-committee in which two of the three ministers ousted were given a prominent role. And generally, his intention to have the entire G -7 or certainly those most senior in the G -7 assist with the reform process was something that at that time may have been taken seriously. What this does now is to show that the Prime Minister was really buying time that there was and is no seriousness of purpose about the kind of reform that people are pressing for since those ministers that he chose to associate with reform, he has now removed.?

?As a reaction to this, is the UDP offering these men a home??

Dean Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
?I think I would consider any answer to that at this juncture too much speculation. I think we really are adapting a wait and see attitude. This is a matter of internal descent, internal chaos within the P.U.P. except in so far as it affects the general climate of confidence in this country and therefore on our well being we would prefer not to comment.?
