Man dead in S. Highway knockdown
A traffic accident on the Southern Highway Thursday night has claimed one life. Twenty-six year old Armando Gomez, a resident of Mile six on the Southern Highway, was knocked down as he walked on the side of the road around six forty last night. Twenty-one year old Clifford Calam of Placencia told police that he was driving a van south but as he reached between mile one and two he was blinded by the high beams of an oncoming vehicle and swerved to avoid a head on collision. And while he was successful in avoiding that crash, Calam’s van ran into Gomez who was walking on the side of the road. Gomez was pronounced dead on arrival at the Southern Regional Hospital and police have detained Calam pending further investigations.
