Policeman shot dead in Bz. City
It’s not the kind of crime you’d expect on Christmas Eve but by now we know that when it comes to violence in Belize, there are no longer any rules. This morning a bustling downtown Belize City paused in shock while another police officer was gunned down on the street. News 5’s Jacqueline Woods has the story.

Members of the police forensic unit were out in force, but the gory scene only begins to tell the story of the horrific crime. Less than a month after constable Uwin Armstrong was shot dead, the police department is once again dealing with the murder of one of its own. Twenty-one year old Nedi Reymundo, a police constable attached to the Maskall Police Station in the Belize District, was shot in the head shortly after he left this barber shop on West Canal around eleven this morning.

?This is another sad day for us, for the Department. Mr. Reymundo was posted at the Maskall Police Station. He is not what you would call a senior constable but he was posted out there because we saw the need for him to get more exposed to general policing.?
Because the shooting occurred at a time when many Christmas shoppers were on the streets authorities say there may be a some witnesses, but the police have not yet been able to identify the killer. Sources tell News 5 that the suspect has been described only as a dark complexioned man.

?As you know it is relatively early and we are still investigating this matter thoroughly. We haven?t quite tied down the motive yet and until we tie that down it is difficult to say anything else.?
Today the police, already on heightened security for the Christmas season, are once again left disturbed and perplexed at being targeted for what appears to be no reason.

?Well we are under a state of shock because we recently buried Armstrong and we are also a bit confused because this one was in civilian wear so we do not know if he was targeted because he was a police officer off duty or if it was just another person in the wrong place at the wrong time. We do not know that yet. So I think my officers are a bit confused until we tell them exactly what was the motive behind it.?
Reymundo, a former class mate and one of the pall bearers at Uwin Armstrong?s funeral graduated with him from the police training school in October, 2000. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.
Late word from police is that the killer was dressed in black pants and a blue polo shirt. Reymundo did not have a wife or children and is survived by his parents and one sister. At newstime funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
