Police say Corozal robbery was inside set-up

A robbery reported in Corozal has been exposed as an inside set up. According to police, twenty-nine year old Ada Palomo, a supervisor at Bethesda Medical Centre, conspired with her fiancĂ©, nineteen year old Julio Novelo, to rip off her employer by staging a robbery of the establishment. On Tuesday night around nine Palomo was on duty along with a nurse Narcissa Rodriguez, when a masked man armed with two knives entered the premises. Rodriguez ran into an office where Palomo had previously gone and locked the door. According to police, Palomo urged her co-worker to hand over all the money that was in the office. Instead, Rodriguez slid some cash under the door, but when it wasn’t enough to satisfy the robber, he threatened to break down the door. Somehow, when Palomo went to help Rodriguez hold back the door, it mysteriously opened and the masked man grabbed over nine hundred dollars in cash, leaving the women unharmed. Subsequent police investigations led them to conclude that Palomo had set up the jacking. Both she and Novelo have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery while Novelo was additionally charged with robbery and aggravated burglary. They will appear in Corozal Magistrate’s Court on Christmas Eve.
