Salvation Army comforts elderly

Last week it was the children…and today senior citizens were on the receiving end of the Salvation Army’s Christmas goodwill. Close to sixty men and women from Belize City were invited to the organisation’s main church on Cemetery Road where they received food parcels from pastors of the church, Captain Anthony Sanchez and his wife Lizette. According to Sanchez, the food parcels, which are part of the church’s end of year community project, come with a special message.

?The Salvation Army Central Corps put this together by we go out in the night carolling in different areas such as Belama, King?s Park, Ladyville and other places. The donation that we get towards the carolling we put it together and we get these parcels for these people to try and share Christmas with them.?

?Well the people that we are trying to look for is the elderly. And we just give them a ticket and they come to the church and we just give them this parcel.?

?The message that we do here in the Christmas parcel is to let them know that God loves them and the real meaning of Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ.?

And while the Sanchez’s were busy handing out food parcels, the Salvation Army itself was on the receiving end of another organisation’s generosity. Marketing Coordinator for Courts, Parveen Hamilton, this morning handed over some cash and a box of toys which they collected from the company’s staff countrywide.
