B.E.L.’s Annual Hamper Drive

The PUC has put the brakes on electricity rate increase, but the employees of Belize Electricity Limited are in the spirit of giving. The annual hamper drive where residents from across the country are lucky recipients of groceries and care products took place over the past two days. For the seventeenth consecutive year, the utility company gave back to the community and delivered a hundred and twenty packages containing all the main ingredients for a traditional Christmas meal. The initiative was made possible through monetary contributions from employees which were matched by the company. Public Relations Manager, Vonetta Burrell explains.

“The hamper drive is one that we remain committed to for over seventeen years and our employees have always made contributions. The company has continuously contributed as well. This year we are proud to announce that we are distributing a hundred and twenty hampers countrywide—in all the districts, San Pedro and Caye Caulker. These families were selected by our employees; they know the persons in their communities who are in need and they nominated these recipients. And so the selection process is actually one that is driven by the concerns and efforts of our own employees. For the families that actually have young children, we are also giving them toys. We have some recipients who are elderly, who have special needs; those packages also contain some care items; toiletries and basic necessities for those persons who are not in a position to actually keep themselves supplied with the toiletries that they need. We are happy that we able to continue with this annual tradition and we look forward to next year to give even more hampers as well as give back to our community. our employees just like B.E.L. we remain committed to improving the quality of life for all Belizeans.”
