No Increase in Electricity Rates Says PUC

There’s good news tonight for consumers. The Public Utilities Commission has issued a statement in respect of a proposal for a rate increase in electricity. Following the submission from Belize Electricity Limited to increase the Mean Electricity Rate, the PUC says that it will not adjust the existing cost per kilowatt hour from thirty-five cents to thirty-eight point eight-five cents.  B.E.L. had made a formal request for changes to be made to the Annual Review Proceedings for 2015 to reflect an almost four cents increase in the Mean Electricity Rate.  The final draft of the 2015 ARP contains previously approved tariffs to come into effect between January first and June thirtieth, 2016.
