Minor Clings to Life After City Shooting

Kurk Broaster

Back to the city where a late afternoon shooting took place. A fifteen year old boy of a Pickstock Street address is tonight in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was shot at least once to the chest just after four p.m.  Kurk Broaster and another minor were standing at the corner of Pickstock Street and New Road when two men on a motorcycle rode up from the direction of North Front Street, stopped and opened fire on the duo. Residents say at least four shots were fired at the minors by the gunman who sat on the rear of the motorbike.  The brazen assailants then rode off towards Barrack Road and escaped. Broaster was the only one hit and he was rushed to the K.H.M.H. in a taxi.  His pair of white slippers and a small spot of blood were left on Pickstock Street as police officers attached to the Gang Suppression Unit and the Crime Investigation Branch continue to probe into this latest act of gun violence in the Old Capital. We were also told by residents in the area that police detained two men from the neighborhood allegedly in connection with the shooting.
