Student Remanded for Boxing Day Murder

Cecil Ramirez

A sixth form student is on remand tonight at the Belize Central Prison, following an arraignment for the weekend murder of eighteen-year-old Lennox Pierez Flowers.  The fatal stabbing incident occurred during an event in Burrell Boom Village which succeeded the Boxing Day horserace.  Flowers, it is reported, got into an altercation with an ex-girlfriend at Charleston Park prior to being mortally wounded on Saturday night.  He was allegedly accosted by a trio of men, one of whom inflicted the deadly injuries.  This afternoon, nineteen-year-old Cecil Ramirez was read a single count of murder when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser.  In court, attorney Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley requested that the matter be revisited as early as January since it is still under review by the Director of Public Prosecutions.  With that, the case was adjourned to January twenty-sixth, 2016.  Earlier today, Ladyville police gave an update in their ongoing investigation.

Insp. Juanito Cocom, O.C., Ladyville Police

“We will be laying charges of murder to Cecil Ramirez this morning.  He will be charged for murder.”

Isani Cayetano

“Why only one person thus far, whereas we understand that there may have been three individuals involved?”

Insp. Juanito Cocom

“The evidence we have is only pinpointing to one person doing the stabbing.”

“So I had asked yesterday, no more charges contemplated for conspiracy to commit murder?”

Insp. Juanito Cocom

“No evidence of that sort.”

“Have you guys, have police sought the phone from the deceased to get information from that?”

Insp. Juanito Cocom

“Yes we have.”

Isani Cayetano

“The allegation is, as far as the parents are concerned, is that the very same young lady who may have been the cause of all of this was on the scene of the incident at the moment it transpired and they’re also saying that they have witnesses who can corroborate that a threat was made prior to this incident.  Are you guys following that lead?”

Insp. Juanito Cocom

“Yes, of course we are following that lead and as we tell you the investigation is continuing.  Just because we have laid down charges on one person doesn’t mean that the investigation is already concluded.  We are still investigating and if we get evidence to ascertain that we will lay charges on other persons.”
