Police Say Patrick Grant Was Not Sexually Assaulted

On Sunday, a ninety-three-year-old man was brutally beaten at his home on Fern Lane in Belize City. The vicious attack had the earmarks of a burglary, since Patrick Grant’s twenty-one inch television was stolen. But it is a miracle that the elderly man survived after being hit in the head with a cement block. The beating was bad enough, but there was early and disturbing speculation, based on evidence found, that Grant had also been sexually assaulted. Tonight, we can confirm, with relief that he was not. That confirmation came from Eastern Division South Commander Chester Williams, who told us today that the level of violence visited on the elderly man was incomprehensible.

“I don’t understand, or I do not see what Mr. Grant could do to somebody, a young man, for him to be able to inflict the amount of injuries that were inflicted on him. So I must extend my sympathies to the family of Mr. Grant. From what our investigation has been showing, we know that there is a lot in the media to suggest that Mr. Grant may have been sexually molested, but I can categorically say that we had requested the doctor to conduct an examination to say whether in fact that happened. The doctor informed us that there is no evidence to suggest that he was sexually molested, so I am happy to know that has been dispelled through medical examination. I believe that the only reason why the perpetrators of that crime could have injured Mr. Grant the way they did – I think that they wanted to kill him to silence him because I do believe he knows who his attackers are and that’s the reason they wanted to silence him. I must say that the quick response of the Police in investigating the matter resulted in the discovery of a television which was stolen from Mr. Grant’s home during the robbery at the home of the now arrested Chester Noralez. He has been charged for the crime of dangerous harm and burglary.”
