Downtown shops damaged by fire

Story PictureA fire Thursday night in downtown Belize City has caused damage to two business establishments. At around eleven thirty, fire-fighters responded to reports of heavy smoke pouring from a building at number fourteen Orange Street. The owners opened the metal shutters and the blaze was extinguished, but the contents of both stores were largely destroyed by heat, smoke and water. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short in the shop owned by Kamal Nadwani, which spread to the store of Prakash Kumandagni. Both merchants carried at least some insurance.
