San Pedro Police Detain One Man for PG Murder

Albert Valentine

On January ninth, the badly decomposed body of PG resident nineteen year old Jarrell Edward Pop was found dumped in a well in the town. He had multiple stab wounds to the body and neck, and apparent blunt force trauma. Police have held details of the investigation very close, but tonight we can confirm that a man considered to be the main suspect has been apprehended in San Pedro where he was allegedly hiding out. Today we spoke to Deputy Commander of the Coastal Executive Inspector Henry Jemott. He told us that shortly after PG Police sent out the all points bulletin on January thirteenth, they had Albert Valentine in custody.

On the Phone: Insp. Henry Jemott, Deputy O.C., Coastal Executive

“San Pedro Police received information that a person who is wanted in Punta Gorda for the recent murder had been seen in San Pedro hiding. We then got the Special Branch and the QRT and CIB personnel to work on the location of this male person. At about one-fifteen, he was located in the San Mateo area in the apartment room. We then confirmed his name to be Albert Valentine; his date of birth is the ninth of the tenth ’94, a twenty-two year old construction worker of Punta Gorda Town. We then placed him under arrest, informed him of his constitutional right and informed him that he is wanted by Punta Gorda Police after which we contacted Punta Gorda Police and the Major Crimes Belize City for his safe transport to Punta Gorda Town. From interviewing him he claimed that he came here just after that incident, about the first or second of January.”

“Could you be able to tell us at this time if he gave perhaps a confession statement to police when he was arrested?”

On the Phone: Insp. Henry Jemott

“When he was arrested, he stated that he had no knowledge of the incident. That is what he stated in the interview.”
