P.U.P. Faithful Celebrate Birthday of Rt. Hon George Price

Francis Fonseca

The Father of the Nation, Honourable George Price, would have been ninety-seven today. The political icon died in September, 2011, and each year the P.U.P.’s leaders and many of the faithful make the pilgrimage to his tomb at the Lord Ridge Cemetery to pay tribute. They did this morning, to say Happy Birthday to the man with whom the People’s United Party will forever be associated.

Francis Fonseca, P.U.P. Leader

“As I was coming over here this morning, Mister Price was on the radio delivering a speech; Vibes Radio was playing some of his speeches. And in this particular speech that I was listening to on the short drive over here, he was talking about loyalty, service and commitment—three words that in many respects defined George Price’s life. A life of loyalty—loyalty to his family, loyalty to his community and country, loyalty to his party. Service of course was at his core—a life of service, a life of sacrifice; his entire life was given to the Belizean people and nation. And of course commitment—strong, unwavering commitment to core values and core principles that defined not only the philosophy and work of the People’s United Party, but really formed the foundation for our young nation. And so as we move forward we must remember these lessons from Mister Price’s life; loyalty, service and commitment must be central components of each of our lives, particularly you our young friends. Your teachers must educate you and teach you about these values of loyalty and service and commitment to each other, to your communities, to your schools, to your families to our nation. This is how; this is the only way we will build a strong nation moving forward.”
