Paumen’s Firearm and Murder Plot May Not be Related – ComPol Whylie

Allen Whylie

On January eleventh, Paumen had been on remand three days already, but strangely, police made no noise about the very significant, very high-level arrest. So when the GSU found a gun in an abandoned garage on Plues Street—a gun registered to Bradley Paumen—it was reported as just another firearms bust. Now, with subsequent information on the American, the question has to come up – how did his firearm get into that garage on Plues Street, in George Street Gang territory? ComPol Whylie told the media today that the matters are not necessarily related.

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“Our records show that gun had been licensed to Mr. Paumen, that it had not been licensed for a while. I cannot say that there is any connection between that gun and where it was found and the charges that were proffered against him. You must understand that from time to time intelligence indicates guns as well as drugs are in different locations and different teams respond to those things, so we recover a number of firearms not only in Belize City but also in other jurisdictions. It just so happens that one of those guns recovered was his gun. You must understand that it was an independent team that found that gun. It wasn’t the investigative team. But the gun has been sent to forensic as we normally do when we find guns.”

Reliable sources tell News Five that investigators believe that Paumen has attempted to solicit the services of a hit-man before, and the gun found in gang territory could certainly be connected to one of those attempts.

  1. Belizean Pride says:

just made me laugh to see this officer make his press release, if I would be there asking the question we would probably be mum. since the gun was register to the American guy was it ever reported stolen as to say why it was found in a gang area? Nobody ask that I was in awe. He seems like a fourth form graduate on a job interview half clueless of what is going on in the country. Mein as reported in many news outlets Belize Police are inept and it seems true.
