Ras Indio Releases ‘One-of-a-Kind’

On a lighter note….after a mega performance at the Festival de Cultural Caribe in Tulum, Mexico, Belizean reggae artist Ras Indio is debuting his new E.P. album entitled “One of a Kind.” It’s the first ever lover’s rock CD by Ras Indio. The album has six tracks; all except for one was produced locally. According to Ras Indio is taking local experiences and translating it into reggae love music.

“People don’t know me to sing love songs or sing a song about empress. I had one song, Royal Queen; that song did go all over the world. But this album, “One of a Kind,” will definitely be all over the world. It’s distributed through V-Pal music which is a branch of VP Records, the biggest reggae record label in the world.  So the music, this album will be available in Japan, UK, all over Europe, Africa. Believe it or not, this album was produced right here in Belize. The only song that is done by a foreign producer is “Love You Always,” by King Huptown. He works with Beres Hammond and Sanchez. So when I began embarking on this project…he said whenever I need a rhythm, call him. So this was the perfect time. So you will hear the song “Love You Always” on the album. But we have “One of a Kind,” which is the title track; you have “My Remedy;” you have the “Only One.” (Sings)”

“Ras, I have to ask…what sets you apart from these other artists that are out there?  Apart from the fact that you do reggae, but what sets you apart from them that makes you that one and only?”

Ras Indio

“Belize. That’s all I have to say. When I go out there is the vast world and go around all those other reggae artists, when I say, “this is Ras Indio from Belize;” that makes the whole thing different. And so I am a Belizean reggae artist and that’s why I encourage all Belizean artists—whatever genre you do—just keep pushing it. We have been known to only do Punta—that’s our main local music, if you want to use the word local—but we have to spread out. And big to all the Belizean artists.”

The album is available online on I-tunes and locally in Belize City at Teddy’s on King and Queen Streets; at Venus Records and Back to My Roots in Cayo; in Belmopan at Daker’s Book Shop and PC Dot Com by the bus terminal. In Orange Walk, DJ Rob has them for sale and in Dangriga at the bus terminal. The cost is between ten to fifteen dollars.
