Will There Be a P.U.P. Leadership Debate?

Three days before a national convention to be held in Belmopan, Francis Fonseca, John Briceño and Cordel Hyde, the three men who want to be leader of the P.U.P., will be squaring off in what has been dubbed a historic debate to be held at the Radisson Villa Wing. Or at least that’s the plan. From our recollection, there was a prime-ministerial debate between Said Musa and Manuel Esquivel, but a debate between aspiring leaders of a political party would, if it happens, be a first. Former journalist and organizer Glenn Tillett sent out the formal release this afternoon announcing that all three candidates have responded to his invitation to debate and have confirmed their participation. According to Tillett, the debate is being put together by a small team which includes himself, former P.U.P. Minister Jose Coye, P.U.P. Deputy Leader Carolyn Trench Sandiford and P.U.P. Standard Bearer for Belize Rural North Lloyd Jones. The candidates for leader, if they can agree on the rules of the debate and actually turn up on January twenty-eighth, will have to answer questions and verbalize their positions on a number of pertinent issues. In his release, Tillett asks the public to join in by submitting questions for consideration to his email address: glenntillett@gmail.com
