FECTAB Will Stand Behind Stake Bank Project
FECTAB also weighed in on the situation surrounding the now halted Stake Bank project. Developer Mike Feinstein has requested exclusivity from Government or at the very least a tangible show of support to allow him to recover his investment in the long term. Government has responded by stating that it is not prepared to offer exclusivity, and furthermore is also speaking with investors willing to revisit the concept of a cruise port in Port Loyola. According to Rosado, FECTAB is firmly in the corner of the local developer.

“We have been fighting for Stake Bank for some years now. David went all the way to the south when Harvest Caye was just a rumor and now Harvest Caye is almost done if it is not done yet. We are here to promote and help any local Belizean and Stake Bank is a native, local Belizean. The Port of Belize; I’ve heard in Belize that it is an Ashcroft Groups. We as tour operators, we have to invest every penny that we have in our business and we have to use the telephone; for everything we need the phones and we have been ripped off through B.T.L.—under the P.U.P., under the U.D.P. They have played games with the Ashcroft Group in B.T.L. so we, as FECTAB, are not staying quiet. We have seen whereby this country has been ripped off with all the poor people that work so hard from six to six for the telephone company, and we have been selling it, buying it, selling it, buying it and losing money every time. And this is the same group our government wants to deal with for the Port of Belize. We are seeing a problem there. We are not genius; we are just hard working people, but we are not simple anymore. We are not going to stay quiet anymore. We have the Stake Bank that we asked to help; with Stake Bank, Belizeans will definitely get more crumbs cause we are not going to get no big thing from Stake Bank because it is not ours. But when a Belizean owns something, Belizeans get a little.”
