Cayo cop charged in brutal killing of girlfriend

A police constable has been charged with murder following the brutal death of his common-law-wife. Forty-one year old Jose Zetina is accused of killing nineteen year old Rosa Mehia following an argument at their San Ignacio home. Sources in Cayo tell News 5 that there had been some ongoing problems between the two, but it was believed they had patched up the relationship to the point where Zetina hosted a birthday party for Mehia on Sunday night. By six this morning, however, something had gone radically wrong as an argument erupted, allegedly ending when Zetina grabbed a machete and chopped up his lover while Zetina’s four children watched. Apart from numerous machete wounds, the victim was also stabbed in the heart with a seven inch knife. Zetina was posted at the Benque Viejo de Carmen police station.

The weekend?s two murders are only the third and fourth for the November. The total for 2004 has now reached seventy-six.
