Czech National Martin Muzikant on Lockdown

Czech national Martin Muzikant is on lock down tonight after appearing in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on a string of immigration offences.  He was busted on Sunday afternoon in Orange Walk Town, almost two years after being expelled from Belize for unlawful possession of a passport.  Muzikant, who also goes by the name Petr Moneth, had been escorted to the Belize/Mexico border in April 2013 by immigration officials who confirmed that a flight had been booked from Cancun International Airport to Czechoslovakia.  It is unclear whether Muzikant had indeed returned to his home country or if he simply re-entered Belize sometime later.  News Five understands that his arrest and arraignment in the lower court today precedes a mandatory two-year prison sentence under the Aliens Act after which he will once again be kicked out of the country.  In the wake of his apprehension, Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action, COLA, has wasted no time in demanding that due diligence be carried out to ascertain whether Muzikant is wanted in another jurisdiction.

“I was informed like late Sunday evening that this individual was being detained and I think the good work with the police officers up in Orange Walk, suspected this individual but he was not being cooperative and it was very difficult to get a fingerprint as he had filed his fingerprints, from what I was made to understand.  So then the officers up that side, I think they have forty-eight hours during which they can detain somebody, and they held a check on him and it turns out that this individual was the same individual that was using two false identities in 2013 and there was an expulsion order on this individual so he was not to have returned.  And I believe that the passports and the name that he was going under was a Czech name that was actually a stolen identity.  I think that they had to return the passport to the Czech government.  So these officers, if you could imagine yourself in their situation now, this guy already was not supposed to be in the country.  We don’t even know who he is and so yesterday they were contacting Interpol to get verification if this individual was wanted by Interpol.  And I think up to yesterday evening COLA was informed that there was no sort of response from Interpol yet and there’s limited time as to how long they can hold an individual and I know that they have turned him over to the Immigration [Department].”
