Paumen Gets Supreme Court Bail Hearing Hours After Remand

But back to Bradley Paumen….He’s a millionaire investor, owner of Dark Night Tours and a resort in Hopkins, but is tonight behind bars at the Belize Central Prison. On Thursday evening, he was unceremoniously placed in the back of a police pickup just outside Court in Belmopan. Paumen was arrested on January sixth and arraigned on January eighth on four counts of Abetment to Murder. Investigators believe he hired a contract killer to murder four persons, including businessman Michael Modiri and Modiri’s local attorney. But Paumen spent only one week at the Belize Central Prison. Despite the assertion that he is certainly a flight risk, and despite the nature of the crimes, Paumen was granted bail of fifty-thousand dollars and released on January fifteenth. His freedom was short-lived, and based on Thursday’s arraignment on additional charges Paumen would be on remand until March eighth. But in an event which we are told is rare, an application for bail for Paumen was heard bright and early this morning as the Supreme Court opened. While there is allowance now for Supreme Court bail applications to be heard expeditiously, Paumen’s attorneys were able to secure a hearing in a matter of hours, since Paumen was only arraigned and remanded at five-thirty Thursday evening. It didn’t fly, and we are told that the Supreme Court Judge who heard the matter adjourned it until next week Wednesday.
