Conch Bust Kicks Off Enforcement Training Course

The timing of the bust by enforcement officers could not have been scripted better, since it comes at the onset of a stakeholder training on enforcement and compliance.

“We started a one week training yesterday in terms of enforcement training for our stakeholders and our enforcement agencies such as Belize Audubon Society, Corozal Wildlife Sanctuary; Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve as well as our partners at Southern Environmental Alliance, SEA down south and of course, all the marine reserves that is managed by the Fisheries Department. So the participants who are part of this training come from all of these departments. The one week enforcement training is to bring officers up to speed and abreast with the fisheries laws as well as the new technology that we are using. We have a funded project that is going on, NCAP, funded by the World Bank. It is five-year enforcement marine protected area project. So this is one component; the training is one aspect of this funded project and hence that’s the reason we were out at Turneffe.”
