Senate committee presses SSB for info
The Senate Special Select Committee investigating the Belize Social Security Board continues to carry out its mandate. According to the committee’s latest release, it met Wednesday to review applications from those persons or firms interested in carrying out the special purpose audit. A decision was taken to continue with the interview of applicants next Tuesday and Wednesday. At the same time, the Committee has been reviewing documents submitted by the SSB, including mortgage agreements for properties used as collateral under the North American and RBTT Securitization Programmes. As for information provided by Social Security on the status of delinquent loans made to the Development Finance Corporation, the committee expressed dissatisfaction that the Board’s response “did not clarify the status of the security in reference to these loans”. The committee has asked the SSB for specific details of what action it plans to take in light of Cabinet’s announced intention to liquidate the DFC.
