B.T.I.A. will proceed with judicial review
The application by the Belize Tourism Industry Association for judicial review of the Carnival contract will proceed, despite the recent signing of a “clarification agreement”. That’s the word from the B.T.I.A.’s executive committee following a meeting this morning with their attorney. News 5 understands that the Association believes that even with the additional amendments portions of the deal remain of doubtful constitutionality. On Wednesday morning attorney Lois Young Barrow will present her case to Justice Samuel Awich, asking permission for the application to be heard. If he agrees, arguments on the merits will be made at a later date. The case for the Government is expected to be presented by Solicitor General Elson Kaseke. For its part, Carnival Corporation and its partners are expected to delay any investment in the hundred million dollar cruise terminal project until the legal air is cleared.
