Well armed robbers jack Cayo bus
Tonight, San Ignacio police are investigating an armed robbery on a commuter bus, which involved the use of some serious firepower. According to the cops, just after one Monday afternoon, a bus travelling from Spanish Lookout bound for San Ignacio made a routine stop in Santa Familia. Police sources tell News 5 that the conductor on board at the time, Daisy Ortega, took the opportunity to pick up two thousand five hundred dollars, all in cash, from her house with the intention of paying for construction materials in San Ignacio that same afternoon. But within minutes of pulling out of the village, a man standing on the side of the road flagged the bus down. Reports are that as he climbed aboard, he pulled out a handgun, put it to the bus driver’s head and told him to stop. It was then that three more men emerged from the bush along the road brandishing an M16 automatic rifle, a nine-millimetre handgun and a sawed-off shotgun respectively. In addition to Ortega’s two and a half grand, the robbers took a gold chain and a cell phone from the driver and disappeared into the forest. Authorities strongly suspect that the bandits came from across the border but if you have any information, please call the nearest police station or Crimestoppers at 9-2-2.
