Elderly man hit by police vehicle

In their zeal to get to Antelope Street for the weapons bust, one of the police units accidentally struck an area resident. The elderly man was knocked unconscious and now he and his wife are struggling to deal with his injuries and get some assistance from the police. News 5 spoke with the couple this afternoon.

?Well, all what I can remember was when I wake because I was knock right out. When I wake, I was in the hospital, I see three policemen and I think a doctor and about two nurse.?

Around ten on Friday night, seventy-one year old Carlos Perez, a security guard, was on his way to work when he was hit and knocked off his bicycle by a police vehicle. Perez was on Vernon Street when the incident occurred. Today the family is upset because they claim the police have yet to extend a helping hand while their loved one remains home suffering from facial injuries and a fractured right leg.

?Nothing happen so far and I want help because whenever I go anywhere, I have to pay taxi to go. Well I have a lady here who helps me and thing. We also have to eat. I need a little help.?

Perez?s common law wife, sixty-eight year old Myra Cardinez, says they should pay for whatever treatment Perez needs. Cardinez says she is an asthmatic, who recently had a stroke says she is unable to take care of Perez. The family is equally concerned by the fact that the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital just treated and released Perez.
