Policemen injured in road mishap

Story Picture
A mid afternoon traffic accident on the Western Highway has left four people, including two police officers, hospitalized in Belize City. Around two o’clock this afternoon Special Constable Steve Wade was heading towards Belize City in this Ford Escort when between miles seven and eight, he apparently lost control and the vehicle ran off the road, slammed into a water main and overturned. When police and emergency teams arrived on the scene, passers-by had already pulled the car out of the ditch and were trying to rescue the three adults and an infant who were trapped inside. Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid was on the scene shortly after the accident.

G. Michael Reid, Police Press Officer

?We understand they were coming from Cotton Tree where the guys they were going to Belize City, probably to begin work or to get ready for work.?

Patrick Jones

?What?s the extent of the injury??

G. Michael Reid

?As far as I could see, S.C. Wade seem to have suffered some head injuries. Scrapes and bruises for the most part, from a cursory glance. The worse it seems was the lady Bernice Bernard. She seems to have suffered some body injuries also.?

Patrick Jones

?This vehicle was travelling to Belize City, but it is on the opposite side of the road.?

G. Michael Reid

?Well Patrick when a vehicle looses control no telling where it?s going to end up. Many times they spin and flip. This car seems to have spun out of control and wound up on the other side of the road. It?s difficult to say exactly what occurred because in a case like this just any number can play.?

The occupants of the vehicle have been identified as Special Constable Steve Wade, Bernice Bernard, P.C. Elton Elijio and Devine Bernard. Police say all the occupants of the car were wearing seatbelts, which probably saved their lives. Late this evening we were told that all victims of the accident were in stable condition.
