Cops arrest man for city robbery
Twenty-four hours after they collared two suspects believed to have robbed a Belize City shopkeeper, police have brought charges against one of the youths. Twenty one year old Kyle Blades was today charged for the crime of keeping an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Blades and another man fitting the description given to police by the proprietor of Quang Singh 23 Supermarket were picked up shortly after an armed robbery on Monday afternoon. According to the owner, just before midday, two men, one of whom was brandishing a gun, entered the supermarket on Racecourse Street and demanded money. The robbers reportedly helped themselves to three hundred dollars from the cash register and as they left the establishment, one of them fired several shots in the direction of the store. No one was injured and police say that they observed Blades and another man walking on Kut Avenue. As they approached, police say one of the men threw an object into a nearby yard. When retrieved, that object turned out to be a nine-millimetre pistol loaded with two bullets. While Blades has been charged for the possession of the unlicensed weapon, he and the other young man remain in police detention pending the outcome of investigations into the robbery.
