Suspect charged in Cayo murder
Fifty-seven year old Gabriel Pinelo, the victim of a brutal murder in his home last weekend, was today buried in San Ignacio Town. Two men were detained by police, pending the outcome of investigations and today a single charge of murder was brought against twenty-five year old Darwin Soberanis, a resident of the Sabido Juan Layout area of San Ignacio. The other detainee has been released. Despite rampant rumours, police remain tight lipped about a motive for the gruesome murder. Pinelo was found bludgeoned to death in his house on Eighteenth Street on Friday. His wife sought the assistance of San Ignacio police after the couple’s daughter informed her mother that she had observed that the door of their house was open. When police entered, they found Pinelo’s body under his bed. A post mortem examination concluded that Pinelo died from brain haemorrhage due to trauma caused by a blunt object.
