K-9 cop hits paydirt in Cemetery
If you happened to pass the Cemetery on the outskirts of Belize City tonight and see a large number of people lurking in the shadows, don’t be scared into thoughts about the night of the living dead. No, these zombies are more likely to be motivated by profit than any thirst for blood. News 5’s Jacqueline Woods has more.

How long the practice has been going on is anybody?s guess, but authorities have discovered that the Lord Ridge Cemetery has been more than just a resting place for the dead. This morning, when police received a tip that one hundred pounds of marijuana was stashed somewhere in the burial ground. The K?9 Unit was called to search the area.

?So far we have found four bags of cannabis hidden within the burial ground area. We found some in the bush behind us and we also find some in the tomb, the tomb along with assorted twenty two calibre ammunition.?
Police strongly suspect the black plastic bags full of drugs along with the ammo were hidden by people who live in the vicinity. According to the Central Intelligence Unit Commander, Sgt. Alford Grinage, they do not believe the cemetery was used as a drop site.

?Well what happen because we have been doing an intensive investigation and through our investigation we get to find out that the people who reside in the area sell you know some of the people who reside in the area do sell drugs and this is the area they hide it because we usually go to their residence and conduct searches and in order not for us to find it, they keep it away from their residence.?
Sgt Grinage says while some of the drugs appeared to have been at the cemetery for some time, they believe other packages were hidden only over the weekend.

?Well maybe they thought they wouldn?t be able to come and find it in the cemetery, but we always try to be ahead of the people who try to do illegal stuff and we?ll continue to investigate and through intelligence we try to stay on top no.?
…And as long as the police continue ton employ dedicated workers like their seven year old German Shepherd named Diks, the drug salesmen will have to keep on their toes.

?It takes a dog an interval of about a minute to another minute to find one area to the next area. So whenever he finds anything I have to reward him with his toy and then we go back another area. So it takes about fifteen to twenty minutes to find all these drugs on the grounds that we have found here.?
