Football tournament cancelled

Sports fans eagerly anticipating semi-pro football action this weekend will have to wait until next year as the Belize Premier Football League has decided to cancel the Commissioner’s Cup Tournament. According to commissioner of the BPFL Maito Perdomo, three teams have already indicated that they would not be participating this year. Kulture Yabra has cited sponsorship trouble, the San Pedro Dolphins are said to be renovating their field and we understand that the Sagitun football club decided to sit out after negotiations regarding international playing opportunities fell through. Perdomo says following meetings with the club owners next week, additional details regarding the tournament cancellation will be publicized. The next scheduled BPFL tournament, the Regent Insurance Cup competition, is set to begin in January 2005.
