Who is Cayo North Area Rep Omar Figueroa Supporting in Leadership Race?
In news of a political nature, the U.D.P. convention for a first deputy party leader will be held in June or July. Minister of Education Patrick Faber at the launch of his candidacy received the endorsement of senior colleagues in the U.D.P. and other newcomers to his party. Today, we asked Minister Omar Figueroa who he would be throwing his weight behind. He didn’t quite spell out who he was gunning for, but you can probably tell.
Omar Figueroa, U.D.P. Minister
“I think the United Democratic Party is very fortunate, we have two exceptional guys, either one of them is a far better option of anyone that we see on the other side of the political fence. Either John Saldivar or Patrick Faber, they have a record, they are smart, intelligent guys, they have the capability to lead this country and so the United Democratic Party is in excellent hands either way. What I have said to both Patrick and John is that the U.D.P. we need both of them. We need both of them to keep active, we need both of them to stay vibrant and what I wouldn’t want to see is for our party to get divided over this convention. So it is still early, the national party council still has to meet and we need to see where we are in regard to when the convention will be and we need to set everything in place. But I am excited about both guys that are offering themselves for leadership.”

“Sir but at that convention you will be asked to vote for either one, so have you made up your mind or no?
Omar Figueroa
“We need to engage with these guys and discuss it. It’s a little bit early so we have to see.”
Reporter
“But you haven’t made up your mind as yet?”
Omar Figueroa
“I have, I have deep down.”
Duane Moody
“What is it that will guide your decision, what are you looking for in that leader?”
Omar Figueroa
“Like i said we are very fortunate to have two very capable, competent guys, it is a win, win situation for the U.D.P. and in fact for this country.”
Duane Moody
“Sir, but we have seen a lot of senior U.D.P. ministers come out for Mr. Faber; is that where you’re seeing yourself going or are you going to support Mr. Saldivar who is also from the West?”
Omar Figueroa
“I am a junior guys in this game, I like John Saldivar, like I said he is very capable and competent and he can do this country good, he has what it takes, he is an economist, he has what it takes.”
Duane Moody
“So that’s the person you are supporting?”
Omar Figueroa
“If you’re saying that huh.”
