City Council sporting summer camp for kids
With school out and children free to roam, summer camps are popping up everywhere. The Belize City Council is hosting its fourth annual summer sports camp at the Yarborough Green. Over two hundred children between the ages of eight and seventeen are expected at the camp. But it won’t be all games as the participants will be helping with improvements to the Muslim Primary School on Central American Boulevard. Aside from basketball, football and baseball, the kids will be helping with repairs and maintenance around the compound. The program begins on Monday, July sixth, and will be running for two months.
Jerome Mejia, Summer Program Coordinator
“We’re organizing a summer camp where we have football, basketball and baseball at the Yarborough Green, the sixth of July.”
Gavin Courtenay
“And how many children are you hoping to target?”
Jerome Mejia
“Well… last year we mi have about two hundred kids, so this year we are expecting that amount, maybe more.”
Phillip Willoughby, City Councillor
“What we are hoping to attain from this year’s summer program as with the previous three years is that all the inner-city youths can engage in some positive activities, basically and hope to get them engaged through the various sports that the City Council will be offering.”
