Cabinet approves belt tightening
A release from Cabinet reports that at that body’s regular Tuesday meeting a number of decisions were taken. Among them: the implementation of a code of ethics for justices of the peace along with criminal penalties for those who go astray and the creation of an accrediting body to facilitate operation of the CARICOM single Market and Economy. Cabinet also approved a programme to reduce the 2004/2005 deficit. Among the money saving tactics are tightening up on fuel and utility expenditures while at the same time reducing discretionary tax exemptions and improving collection of taxes.
