Who Said Finnegan is Retiring from Mesop Politics!

Still on political news…Is perennial Mesopotamia Area Representative Michael Finnegan throwing in the towel?  In the wake of his November fourth victory in the 2015 General Elections, Finnegan’s nephew Jamal ‘Shyne’ Barrow came forward to announce that he is the heir apparent for the Mesop seat sidelining former Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya, who had appeared to have been in grooming for Mesop.  And the announcement by Shyne Barrow gave many the impression that this is Finnegan’s final term in office.  While he dispelled that rumor altogether, he did also weigh in on what public support from area representatives means for the Faber/Saldivar race.

“Everybody said that I was retiring.  That is a matter for me and my family and when that time comes, if I will do that the public will know.  In the mean time I am in the Mesopotamia Division everyday and I am doing what I have been doing for the last thirty years.  And when that changes you will be the first to know my love.”

“Sir, Minister Faber has said that in some cases he’s not putting a lot of wait behind the support that some of the parliamentarians, or area reps standard bearers have given, that it’s in the numbers really.  Do you believe that as well?  For instance, your support should bring…”

“You see, if a candidate is supporting you that is good for you but that is not where it stops.  The delegates are what are important.  So I can be supporting Faber but can I get my whole fifteen delegates to support Faber?  Most likely not.  So how many candidates deh behind you and how much representatives you got behind you, that is nada, nada, nada.  Ih no mean nothing.  What is important are the delegates.  And you have got to visit the delegates and talk to the delegates because if I am supporting a particular candidate it doesn’t mean that all the fifteen delegates from Mesopotamia who will vote at the convention will vote for Faber.  I will try my best of course to have all of them vote for Faber but those delegates must be free to vote for whomsoever they want.”
