Two dead in accident on rain slicked W. Hwy
The murder that took place over the weekend in Cotton Tree was not the only death to occur in that historic Village. Only a few hours before the killing of Gilroy Blancaneaux, two other members of the community lost their lives nearby in a traffic mishap. Jacqueline Woods has more.

Twenty-eight year old Adolfo Caliz Baizar better known as Sonny and his friend seventeen year old Douglas Hyde were returning from Roaring Creek Village to Cotton Tree Village when around mile forty-three on the Western Highway Caliz apparently lost control of his Geo Prism. The car turned over three times before smashing into a fence and then a tree. The impact snapped the tree in half and left both driver and passenger severely injured in the vehicle. It is believed Caliz?s neck was broken and Hyde was crushed by the fallen tree and trapped in the wreck

?I see my son there in the morgue lying down just like he is alive. There is no bruises, no cut or noting deh pan he. So the only thing I could say maybe is that the impact that he got–the bounce–that?s what probably popped his neck. It looks like he died instant.?
Veronica Baizar says she does not know for sure what caused her son to crash.

?I just don?t know really what caused it. I just know he gone straight into the fence and broke it down. But I don?t really know what caused it; if it was the hard rain and he slipped off the road or if he was sleeping over the wheel. I don?t really know what.?
Baizar says driving was her son?s profession and he was always careful behind the wheel.

?He is a bus driver and right now he was working with Mr. Lopez in Belize. He used to drive those big trailer trucks to run to Corozal to bring down papaya and sugar and go all down South with some big trailer to take steel and cement. So then this what happened, I can?t understand it.?
But a fire truck responding to the accident also turned over just a few yards away from the crash site. No one in the truck was seriously hurt, but according to one of the firemen it was raining hard and as they approached the area the highway became slippery and the driver lost control. This is what authorities believe may have also happened to Caliz and caused the deadly crash. Jacqueline Woods for News Five.
According to fire chief Henry Baizar the fire truck was a used vehicle bought two years ago for one hundred and sixty thousand dollars. It is estimated that the vehicle sustained damages to the tune of around ten thousand dollars and should be back in operation in two weeks time. Meanwhile, Belmopan police informed News 5 that on that same Saturday night a bus travelling to Belmopan turned over after its driver also lost control on the same stretch of highway due to wet conditions. We understand that no one was seriously injured in that accident.
