3 Men are Charged with Attempted Murder of Jose Gonzales

Three persons were formally charged late this evening in Belmopan for the attempted murder of Jose Gonzales. Gonzales was along with Maya Mopan resident, Luis Ortiz on Sunday morning just before he was killed and his body and vehicle dumped in the Belize River near the Agripino Cawich Bridge in Camalote. While they were not charged for the murder, police believe that thirty-eight year old Sherman Thomas, nineteen year old Devon Brooks and twenty-two year old Kimahl Dawson attempted to kill Gonzales in front of the cemetery in Roaring Creek Village, Cayo.  The beating ended when Gonzales played dead and the men reportedly jumped into a green Chevy Prism and took off with Ortiz inside. The trio was also jointly charged for robbing Gonzales of his wallet and other personal belonging. The men are expected to be arraigned on Friday in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court.
