Hit & run kills teen on S. Hwy.

A hit and run accident on the Southern Highway has left one man dead. According to police in Independence Village, early this morning motorists informed them that a body was lying on the Southern Highway near the Swasey Bridge. When officers reached the scene, they found the body of a man, apparently dead, with severe injuries to the head. A quick search of the area turned up a bicycle in good condition. The body was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where medical personnel certified that the victim was dead on arrival. The deceased has been identified as fifteen-year-old Alex Chuc of Bladen Village. Authorities are speculating that Chuc had been lying on the road when he was hit, which would explain why the bike was not damaged.
