Percival Pilgrim to Stand Trial in ‘Ghost’ Usher’s Murder

A year ago, gunmen executed forty-year old Edward “Ghost” Usher, a resident of Mayflower Street while he was on the steps of his house in the Ghost Town area in Belize City. Police detained teenager, Percival Pilgrim, as the gunman in the broad daylight shooting.  At the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry for Pilgrim today, he was committed to stand trial at the June session of the Supreme Court. This came after he did not challenge any of the evidence that the prosecution is relying on about the April 2015 murder. Prosecutor, Inspector Hector Rodriguez submitted as many as twelve statements from witnesses in the community including police. He also submitted thirty-six sets of pictures relating to the murder. Pilgrim was unrepresented and the Chief Magistrate informed him that he can provide the court with a list of persons who he plans to rely on as alibi witnesses. In response he gave the court, the names of an uncle and sister who reside at a Banak Street address in Belize City; he was told he can provide other names within twenty-one days.  On Saturday, April eleventh, 2015, Usher a.k.a. “Ghost” was executed; his murder was believed to have been gang related and triggered a series of retaliatory attacks in the neighbourhood.
