Sotz Family Send Out a Plea for Justice

Santorino Sotz

Sotz killing prompted riots on Caye Caulker and the family believes that the wheels of justice are not turning. The two cops were also granted bail of two thousand dollars each. Hilberto was to graduate from Baptist High School in the west when his life was cut short ten months ago.

Santorino Sotz, Father of Hilberto Sotz

“I have the evidence and Mister Nunez told me one week before the time, before the eighth of June, he told me and went to my wife and look for my son; he want detain ahn for burglary. But my son is not there; he was at Baptist high school. Then he told me, if I meet yo son, I wah kill ahn. And that’s why I hurted and ih do it. Ih do it and then the D.P.P. wah say there is no evidence? I’m his father and they arrested him in my hand and that Nunez was supposed to bring back my son in my hand. Whosoever took my son, they are responsible. He mi supposed to go to fourth form right now; see my daughter right now, she’s in third form right now. Plus I borrowed six thousand from the bank and the bank sue me last two weeks for the loan. Which in the police officers took my son’s life and now they back on the streets for two thousand dollars. That’s why we in Caye Caulker…if the law can’t do justice and the same petition, the names…I will pick up these three hundred people, we will locate him and we will do justice. But we are not doing this right now. We are asking the police department that please we need justice. If they reach there, if the D.P.P. is not taking justice, I think like how they say…just like how they take action and the law in their hand and kill my son, we can do it too. But we are not disrespecting the law; we give them ten months to deal with the justice, but the D.P.P. seems to be protecting them.”

Santorino Sotz says he will be taking legal action against the Police Department.
