BATSUB helps Child Care Centre

Story Picture
There are close to fifty young residents at the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Centre, double the number the home was originally built to hold. Throughout the year a number of donations help the centre to meet its commitments and this morning’s handing over was no exception. The British Army Training Support Unit, BATSUB, recently held a fund raising drive and decided to give the proceeds to the children’s home. News 5 was on hand when Dorothy Menzies received a cheque totaling four thousand two hundred fifty-nine dollars and forty-five cents.

Sheldon Lloyd, Staff Sergeant, BATSUB

?It was a worthy cause. A lot of the ladies on camp do what they can to help the orphanage; having spoken to them. We were going to do the cycle anyway for a worthy cause and they said what about the orphanage and we said yes.?

?We cycled from San Ignacio to Price Barracks and it was a total distance of seventy-four point five miles we believe.?

?How does the centre plan to use the funds??

Dorothy Menzies, Chairperson, Dorothy Menzies Child Care Centre

?Well the first thing we want them to do is to complete our laundry room, which our children had outgrown the size of it. The Prespetarian Missionaries had started to alter it, but they have run out of time and money. So if BATSUB could complete it we would be very grateful.?

?We are very excited about their intentions and we are all serious about all of this and we are very grateful to BATSUB for this and any other individuals that come and do things for us. We are very grateful because we don?t have a lot of funds. We are always very grateful when People come and assist us.?

Eleven soldiers and two support BATSUB staff participated in the cycling event.
